The shadows that she noticed on the lawn prompted her to work for months on a technique, which however, did not paint the selected object onto canvas. Rather the subject is transformed into a reproduction of itself and the canvas transforms into the medium for it's personal interpretation by painting, particularly in the case of living or perishable items, such as people or fruits. Alexa's style of painting is very ephemeral. Only the photos of her work remain. Trompe l'oeil is achieved by combining the two techniques of photography and painting. The result is a flattened, two dimensional photograph. Meade sometimes incorporates her painted figures within the three-dimensional space around the figures. They are able to interact with this self-created universe. By doing so, Meade is able to blur the lines between painting, photography and the performance.
