Firefly was Whedon's next hit show, and she must have really had an impact. Summer Glau played River Tam effortlessly. Glau was an excellent actor. As Tam her character, she was enticed into government-sponsored experiments that required her to be prepared to become the perfect assassin. Tam was unable to manage her emotions due to. Glau had the opportunity to show off not only her acting skills, but her combat skills in Firefly. Her experience as an assassin allowed her the chance to utilize every aspect of her athletic ability. Summer Glau was classically-trained as a ballerina. She also has studied Flamenco and Tango, however her foot injury put an end to her dancing career. Firefly had only one episode but it became a massive success. It was so passionate that Whedon returned to the show just a couple of years after. In the meantime though, Summer Glau continued to receive some prestigious work. The actress was on television shows such as Cold Case and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
